close up of a pile of old books

Welcome to Salaam Book Club

Modern life moves too fast. We skim, we scroll, we multitask, and we rarely find the time to sit quietly with a single idea, let alone an entire book.

Salaam Book Club is a gentle rebellion against that rush.

Hosted under the Ramadan Book Fair in Bengaluru, this is a simple, weekly space created for slow reading, quiet reflection, and honest conversation. We don’t rush through reading lists or track how many books we can finish in a year. Instead, we pick one thoughtful text at a time and stay with it until we’ve truly unpacked it together.

Whether you’re looking to build a consistent reading habit, step back from constant screens, or simply sit in good company with a great book, there is a seat at the table for you.

Come as you are; let’s read and let’s have chai together.

Our First Read: The Burnout Society by Byung-Chul Han

We live in a culture that constantly tells us to do more, achieve more, and be more. We optimise our days, manage our time, and chase endless goals, believing this path leads to freedom.

In The Burnout Society, philosopher Byung-Chul Han gently invites us to look closer at this promise.

He shares that our deepest exhaustion doesn’t always come from external rules or pressure forced upon us by others. More often, it comes from within—from a silent pressure to constantly perform, improve, and measure up. When everything becomes possible, we gradually run out of room to simply be.

Through short, quiet, and deeply reflective chapters, the book explores how constant connection, endless multitasking, and an overabundance of positivity leave us feeling worn out and disconnected from ourselves. More importantly, it reminds us of the quiet beauty in slowing down, resting, and regaining the courage to pause.
